Providers come together for Choices 2009
It can be tough enough when you’re studying for your GCSEs,
let alone having to make important decisions about what to do afterwards.
Choices 2009 is a large options event taking
place on Saturday 7 November between 10am and 4pm and
is designed to help the decision making process easier for these
students.
The event is open to all students ranging from 14 years to 19 years
old from Peterborough and the surrounding areas and is being held
in the main hall at Peterborough Regional College.
Organised by members of Team Peterborough, the city's established
collaborative partnership of local schools, colleges and other
providers along with the Local Authority and Learning Skills Council,
the event is looking to be a huge success helping students gain
all the information they may need under one roof.
Young visitors to the event will be able to seek advice from
Connexions, local schools and colleges and also Apprenticeship providers.
Some local businesses are also attending including the NHS, Perkins Engines, Rawlinsons Accountants, Esporta Health Club and Army Careers Centre to name a few.
Brookfield Construction is also in support of the event. They are the team in charge of the new super hospital build in the city, so will be sharing some valuable experience and advice with the potential construction students on the day.
The new Diploma qualifications will be represented in force, including a stand for diplomas starting in 2010 namely, Construction & the Built Environment, Sports & Active Leisure and Business, Administration & Finance.
On the Saturday, parents and students will also be
able to get information and see demonstrations on how to apply
for post -16 courses through the online Common Application Process, which
will be essential for applications for courses starting in September
2010.
Event organiser Stella Cockerill of Team Peterborough is looking
forward to a busy day:
“The pressure on young people to decide what they want to do with their lives can be immense. The Choices event is about helping them to understand what is available to them across the city and make informed decisions that will support them to achieve and be happy in whatever they choose to do. The Choices event provides an opportunity for young people aged 16 to 19, parents and carers to gather information on a wide range of learning opportunities from a diverse range of providers. Connexions will be on hand to help young people reflect on the information available. The day is about helping any young person irrespective of their current level of achievement or their career aspirations make the right decisions about their future.”
Visitors are advised to arrive via the Park Crescent entrance to Peterborough Regional College where there will be ample parking available.
