Awards event 'hots'up for another year
The annual awards event at Peterborough Regional College on Thursday 8 July was a complete success with over 60 students attending and collecting their well deserved prize.
The awards were presented to those students who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in their field and will be across a wide range of curriculum areas, including health and social care, hairdressing and complementary therapies, ICT, hospitality and catering, business construction and engineering, leisure and tourism, and many more.
The celebrity guest speaker, Ade (Addy) Adepitan, delivered a fantastically entertaining and motivational speech about his incredible life.
Ade’s enthusiasm and hard work make him an outstanding role model and ambassador to British Paralympians as well as a fantastic motivational speaker. Not only has he won medals at the Olympics he is also a successful sports commentator and TV presenter, from presenting on shows such as sportsround and the travel show Holiday, various shows on CBBC, to providing Five’s NBA basketball coverage and contributing to regular discussion programmes on Five Live.
Ade’s love of travelling has led him to explore a variety of countries and cultures with him reporting on the worlds many endangered species including swimming with sharks, and observing tigers in their natural habitat.
Lynsey Buckingham, Marketing Officer at the College says:
“We hope all in attendance enjoyed the evening. We always like to see the look on staff and students faces when they walk in to the college hall and see it transformed into a red carpet venue with drapes and chair covers. The students nominated are the best of the best and they deserve a memorable ceremony. We thoroughly enjoyed having Ade here as well; his life story and achievement so far, are as inspirational as you can get for our students. “
Many local companies supported the event, including Dresser-Rand, Colemans, BGL, Media Matters, Anne Corder, Eve Taylor Ltd and Baker Perkins to name just a few.
The College’s Hospitality and Catering students from Parcs restaurant did not disappoint with a delicious selection of delicacies served by the students on silver platters, whilst the Performing Arts students entertained the crowds with a Michael Jackson Tribute set to close the evening.
