Students at PRC are put through their paces
The Army arrived well equipped to give students at Peterborough
Regional College a day full of activities.
The recent event was aimed at over 40 Young Apprentices in Engineering
and Construction and involved giving the students insight into
the array of careers available within the force as well as providing
hands on teambuilding and leadership activities.
The students were divided into groups and rotated around the activities which included: Stripping down and rebuilding a quad bike, bridge building and fitness testing.
Army Staff Sergeant Bob Lovell said “The student’s enthusiasm in all the events was second to none and they continued to be motivated with the array of technical and engineering equipment on show. Comments from the students varied from "how much fun the physical training was" to "I enjoyed the Recovery stand and was surprised how large the vehicles were" which certainly inspired my team to interact more with the military equipment they have.”
This event is one of many that form part of the Young Apprentice framework which involves 50 work-related days, including work experience weeks, summer school activities, RAF station visits and other events that are linked to a career in either Engineering or Construction.
Paul Wadsworth who organised the event and is also an Engineering
Lecturer at the College said “The day was a great success
with all students enjoying the activities provided and the interaction
with the friendly army staff. This was the second successful army
event and we intend to run this as an annual event for our Engineering
students”
