Apprentice achieves Hightly Commended Award

A student from Peterborough Regional College is being presented with a Highly Commended award from City & Guilds after narrowly missing out on the Medal of Excellence for the Construction & Building sector.

The Principal of  Peterborough Regional College, Don Lawson, will be presenting James with his prestigious certificate on Tuesday 20 April at 3.00pm.

The annual City & Guilds Medal of Excellence programme recognises and rewards the exceptional students whose work and commitment really makes them stand out. James was nominated by his tutor at college, David Curl who felt he really deserved the medal;

“I nominated James because he stood out, worked consistently well throughout his course and also whilst being assessed in his work place. He showed an exceptional standard of practical work and he is an asset to the plumbing industry. I am really proud that he is being awarded this certificate.”

James Goakes completed successfully, his Advanced Apprenticeship programme in Plumbing last summer and now works full-time, for his employer Elmore Plumbing and Heating in March, who have supported him throughout his training.

David has also put James forward to receive the title of ‘College Apprentice of the Year’ at the annual Excellence in Skills Awards evening at Peterborough Regional College in July.

James joins a list of names from Peterborough Regional College who have been won Medals of Excellence and Highly Commended awards from City & Guilds. Tutors at PRC are now busy preparing to submit names of outstanding students in all subject areas for the 2010 awards.
