Adult Learners Successfully Complete Course

The students had returned to education after a number of years and have now successfully completed a set of vital qualifications in English and maths, at Peterborough Regional College’s City Learning Centre, Broadway.

The students completed entry level to level 2 in two subjects, equivalent to an A to C grade in GCSE.

Cheryl Thompson, Curriculum Team Manager for Skills for life says:

‘I am very proud of the students, they have done extremely well.  It takes a lot of courage to get back into education.  The courses were all about helping them achieve a maths and English qualification which is essential and can now lead them onto a range of courses or into employment widening their options and opportunities.’

She adds:
‘Courses ran at the City Learning Centre are extremely flexible and people are able to learn at their own pace, and gain their qualifications in a relaxed, friendly and supportive atmosphere.’

Some of the students who were presented with certificates for their numeracy and literacy qualifications also received a certificate for completing the Six Book Challenge which encourages people to get back into reading and is being run in conjunction with the Central Library.  Peter James, bestselling novelist and one of the Quick Read authors presented the certificates to those students who had completed the Six Book Challenge.  He also took the time to give students a talk on what inspired him to become a successful crime novelist and what makes a bestselling novel, motivating students to have a go at writing themselves.
