PRC Employment Service launches in Wisbech
Peterborough Regional College’s successful business arm, Jobsmart Employment Services, is branching out to Wisbech.
Jobsmart Peterborough was launched in September of this year as a complete employment service, the main aim being to help the unemployed get back into work through advertising vacancies and running work preparation academies. The job market is getting more and more competitive and the free courses and workshops can really help candidates get ahead of the rest with sessions such as CV writing and interview skills.
Friday 7 December will mark the official launch of the service arriving in Wisbech and the Jobsmart team will be hosting an event to mark this at their new location of The Boathouse Business Centre. Local businesses are welcome to come and attend the event between 12noon and 2pm to find out more about the Jobsmart service and how it can help them with their recruitment needs.
Jobsmart brings together training for job seekers and a platform to applying for vacancies through the firm links Jobsmart have with local employers and also with the Jobcentre for referring potential new students. Jon Wyllie, Employment Service Manager for Jobsmart says: “Our courses are designed to keep people motivated and give them the skills they need to find work. Alongside traditional training methods, we work closely with Jobcentre Plus to offer additional support to job seekers to give them the best chance of finding work. We provide a jobs brokerage service for employers wanting to advertise vacancies, organise recruitment events, run regular work clubs and deliver sector based work academies”.
“Our additional outreach centre location in Wisbech will really enable us to work with more employers within the fenland area and help more residents prepare for and find employment”.
Stephen Wenn, Adviser Team Manager for the Wisbech Jobcentre says;
“We’re very pleased to be working with Jobsmart to offer good quality training to jobseekers. The training available helps to keep people motivated and prepare them for work. We’re looking forward to setting up a Business Administration programme with Jobsmart to run in early 2013 which we hope will make a real difference to people looking for work in that area”.
The Jobsmart employment service for Peterborough have had some very successful programmes so far with large names such as Coca Cola Enterprises and the new Toby Carvery Restaurant based near the Hampton area of the City.
Ray Davies, General Manager for Toby Carvery, Peterborough says;
“Working with Peterborough Regional College’s Jobsmart service and Jobcentre Plus helped our business identify some really good candidates ready for the opening of our new restaurant in Hampton. We were really impressed by the enthusiasm and motivation of the pre- selected people we interviewed and we recruited 70% of them. The training that the candidates received gave them a great understanding of the hospitality industry which was really obvious on the assessment day activities”.
18 candidates attend the work academy through Jobsmart for Toby Carvery and 10 out of the 18 were offered jobs with a further 2 candidates placed on a reserve list. One jobseeker, Sherrie Moore was so impressed with the programme she popped back into Jobsmart to pass her thanks on personally.
“I used to work as an Assistant Manager for the Card Factory but have been out of work for 7 months. I’ve applied for loads of jobs but never hear anything back. I decided to go along to the information day for Toby Carvery and joined the course”.
“The course was a great help to prepare for interviews and build my confidence, regardless of whether or not I got the job. The tutor was fantastic and really motivated the whole group. I’m delighted to have been offered a Team Leader role with Toby Carvery and am looking forward to starting training on 29th November. If I hadn’t attended this course, I wouldn’t have even applied for the job”.
