Fee Information
Students who start university or college after 1 September 2012 (academic year 2012/13) will be on a new student finance scheme. The main changes are:

  • universities and colleges can charge tuition fees of up to £9,000, UCP is charging £6500 for all undergraduate courses.
  • tuition fee loans will go up to cover the higher fees
  • you don't start repaying your loan until you earn £21,000 (up from £15,000)

  • part-time students can apply for a Tuition Fee Loan (replacing grants)

To cover the costs of studying you can apply for:

Tuition Fee Loan to cover your tuition fees in full which is paid directly to your university. Tuition fee loans can be up to:



  • £9,000 for new full-time students

  • £6,750 for part-time students whose courses are at least 25 per cent of a full-time course each year (eg. four years instead of one year full-time) 

Maintenance Loan for living costs like rent (full-time students only) 

The maximum maintenance loan for new students starting from 1 September 2012 is:

  • £5,500 if you live away from home and study at a university or college outside London 


  • £4,375 if you live at home


Maintenance Grant if your household income is less than £42,600 (full-time students only) You can get:

  • £3,250 if your household income is £25,000 or under 


  • £50-£3,250 if your household income is between £25,000 and £42,600


These loans and grants are paid into your bank account at the start of each term, once you've registered on your course.

Scholarships and Bursaries
We are committed to ensuring that everyone has the ability to study whatever their financial circumstances. Bursaries will be available in 2012 to provide additional financial support for students from lower income backgrounds. The money is available on top of government funded maintenance grants and loans. Read on to see if you are eligible.

Fee Waivers
Fee waivers reduce the cost of your annual tuition fee and are available if your household income is less than £35,000 a year. If you are eligible you will have £500 taken off your tuition fee if your household income is below £35,000 and by £1,500 if you household income is below £25,000. If you are eligible for the fee waver you must apply to receive it. Complete the short application form on Anglia Ruskin University’s website.

National Scholarship Programme (NSP)
Anglia Ruskin is participating in the government's new National Scholarship Programme (NSP), which is being launched for 2012 entry. If your household income is £25,000 or less you are eligible to apply for the NSP. Anglia Ruskin is able to offer 15 NSPs to UCP students which are worth a total of £6,800 in the form of fee waivers over 3 years: £3,000 in year 1, £1,900 in years 2 and 3.

You can apply for an NSP if:
  • you have applied for a full-time undergraduate course
  • you are starting University for the first time in the academic year 2012/13
  • you are either normally resident in England or are an EU citizens from outside the UK (if your homes is in Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland you are not eligible for the NSP)
  • your household income is below £25,000 per year
  • you intend to select UCP as your firm choice

The following criteria will be used to prioritise applications:
  • you are from a neighbourhood with low progression into Higher Education (based on Higher Education Funding Council for England data for participation in Higher Education by geographical area).
  • depending on the level of applications we may also take into consideration predicted grades based on school attainment data

If you fall into one of the following categories you will not be eligible for the NSP:
  • Students continuing directly from one course to another in 2012 (e.g. from foundation degree or HND to final year of an honours degree)
  • Students transferring in from another institution
  • Postgraduate students
  • Any other students whose fees are paid or part-paid through a sponsorship arrangement
  • Students applying via Higher Skills @ Work
  • Students whose homes are in Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland

Some important things to note:
  • You must apply through UCAS before applying for an NSP or fee waiver first as you will need your UCAS personal id.
  • If your application for an NSP is unsuccessful you will automatically be considered for the Anglia Ruskin fee waiver scheme
  • A National Scholarship Programme (NSP) award cannot be combined with an Anglia Ruskin fee waiver or the Peterborough Trust Bursary.
  • Remember to submit your application to Student Finance England as soon as possible. We will only be able to check that you meet the household income criteria for any of our fee waivers when your student finance application has been approved by Student Finance England

If you receive an NSP award you will not be eligible for the Anglia Ruskin fee waiver. Scholarships are limited in numbers and will be allocated on a first come first served basis. The Greater Peterborough Educational Trust Bursary for University Centre Peterborough
This bursary is available to students from non-fee paying secondary schools that are part of the Peterborough Local Authority and Peterborough Regional College, and who have a household income of below £35,000.

Each bursary will be between £500 and £1,000. The amount of the bursary will be calculated on a sliding scale according to household income It will be awarded in years 1 and 2 The payments will be made in two parts each year to ensure that you are still in attendance.

In order to be eligible for the bursary all of the following criteria must apply to you:
  • Must be in receipt of a Higher Education Maintenance Grant or Special Support Grant.
  • Must have consented for the Student Loans Company (SLC) to share information with the University.
  • Must be a student on a course being charged the full fee of £6,500 in 2012-13.
  • Must remain enrolled upon the course until at least the 15th December of the relevant academic year for the first payment.
  • Must  exceed the ARU and UCP attendance requirement and achieve 120 credits each academic year for the second payment.
  • Must comply with the Student Charter as gross misconduct will result in the withdrawal of the bursary.
  • Must be from a Peterborough school or college as identified above.
  • Students who gain the National Scholarship Programme bursary will not be eligible.

The SLC will automatically assess eligibility for this grant when they assess applications for funding.

Important - please note that students in receipt of the Maintenance Grant will have their maintenance loan reduced as part of the maintenance grant is paid in substitution for part of the maintenance loan (which has the effect of reducing the loan debt for lower income students).
